Mammalian Protein Expression (MPE)
The core facility Mammalian Protein Expression (MPE) offers the production of recombinant proteins for research purposes. Vi use mammalian cells as our expression system to obtain proteins with post-translational modifications, such as glycosylation.
We can also help with the culture of cell lines, in different formats. We also culture hybridoma cells for the production of monoclonal antibodies.
The facility is open for all academic researchers and also other researchers from for example companies.
News!
- MPE core facility is now regularly using their method for perfusion culture in 3L bioreactors to generate large number of HeLa-cells that can be used as starting materials for research experiments. The method was set up together with Prof. Claes Gustafsson, Dept. of Biomedicine, GU. Please contact us if you want us to culture HeLa-cells also for you!
- MPE core facility has together with Prof. Tomas Bergström's group at Clinical Virology, GU, produced recombinant glycoprotein E in CHO-cells. The protein has been tested successfully as an antigen for diagnostics of antibodies against Varicella zoster virus, as was recently published in Journal of Virological Methods (Thomsson et al., 2011).
- A protein produced at MPE in collaboration with Prof. Gunnar Hansson's group, Dept. of Biomedicine, GU, has been used to get an increased knowledge about the properties of the CysD-domain in the MUC2 mucin, as was recently published in Biochemical Journal (Ambort et al., 2011).
